About acting

Acting – what does it mean?

I heard several different explanations about what acting is, its art, its a play, etc. but the one I liked most is: Acting is telling a story!

It is that simple. But believe me, its not simple. Or lets put it that way: to those it feels simple and who are humble about acting, but you believe them every word, every motion, every look when they are on stage or on the screen – these are the genius.

How do we invite the audience to be part of the journey of a story?

What I learned about acting, is first of all, one needs to understand the play, the characters, the objectives of each and the obstacles in their way. Then the first thing is learning your text. One thing I figured, in those lessons I had to read my script, interact with a scene partner and play, it was very distracting, that I didn’t know my words. That said, this evening I spend at home, with some chinese food learning my very short two dialogues for tomorrow. And even that was a challenge: A) because I am exhausted, …got to bed at 2am last night, but helloooo, this is New York City, there is sooo much going on! B) after 9 hours of classes today, GREAT amazing inspiring classes, it was hard to concentrate and C) its not about remembering the words more ore less, its about remembering every little word, exactly as it is written in the book.

We will see tomorrow. I tell you one thing, the pizza girl-role in that perspective has its advantages. Its not that difficult to remember that line 😉

During the weekend I have to learn my first monologue. That is going to be interesting.

This Thursday was packed with 3 times 3 hour classes. And all of them were so interesting, that I wish I could absorb it all, just like sponge Bob. Currently my head feels more like a colander.

Thats why GGG is falling asleep now!
Nighty to all of you!
